The school has been operating as a unit within marigat integrated day and boarding primary school. The unit started in 1989 with 4 students and grew up to over 37 students in 2017 ,the ministry of education officials visited the school in 2017,and found out that the visually impaired learners were not getting quality education. This was because of the following;

• -> High population of students in the integrated school each class was having over 60 students. Due to this the subject teachers were not having time for the VI learners. They could not undertake individualized educator of programmed {I.E.P} to the VI children.




• -> Most of the teachers in the school did not know braille and so could not mark the VI children work which was in braille.




• -> Out of a staff of 26 teachers only 4 were trained in special needs




• -> The VI learners were not having learning materials. They were lacking key text books in major subjects The ministry officials realized that the visually impaired learners were disadvantaged due to all this, the officials recommended that a special school be registered to take care of the visually impaired learners. They requested the teacher in charge of the unit to undertake the process of registering the school. This was undertaken and the school {Marigat special school for VI} was registered in september 2020.
